Artist Statement
My work transforms personal experiences into visual narratives through pencil, paint, clay, and layered patterns of color, numbers, and letters. Themes of immigration, adversity, isolation, and loss shape my artistic language, offering glimpses into moments that have defined me. Early pieces explored the irony of borders—a one-cent stamp traveling more freely than a person—using my alien registration number and visa details as recurring motifs. Today, my focus is on honoring lives and memories through portraiture, blending realism with geometric abstraction to reveal and conceal each subject’s essence. My ceramics provide a counterbalance, a playful and spontaneous outlet to contrast the intensity of my drawings. Across mediums, my art bears witness to resilience and transformation, reflecting a life shaped by change and a desire to create meaning and purpose from experience.
